Tipperary and Clare go head to head in Thurles on Sunday in what is effectively a win or bust game for the Premier county. A win will probably guarantee them a top 3 finish, while a loss will mean championship 2018 is finished for them. The game will be live on RTE at 2pm.
Tipperary come into the game on the back of another draw last weekend against Waterford. They were poor in the first half yet again, just like the Cork game so manager Michael Ryan will have to look at that. The second half performance was outstanding though from the Premier, they fell 11 points behind with about 15 minutes to play but never gave up. Seamus Kennedy and Brendan Maher were superb in defence, the latter winning man of match for his performance. Seamus Callanan, John McGrath and Noel McGrath were all quite but I expect them to have a big say in this game against the Banner. Padraic Maher and Ronan Maher will once again look for improved performances from the drawn game with Waterford.
Clare come into the game on the back of a weeks break which would have aided them well for resting injuries and recovery. A win for Clare here will end Tipperary’s championship and in fact give them a last position with a game against Limerick in Ennis to come in 2 weeks time. Joint managers Gerry O’Connor and Donal McInerney will be looking for a repeat performance to that of the easy win over Waterford, players like John Conlon, Peter Duggan and John Conlon were all superb. In defence, Conor Cleary, David McInerney and Pat O’Connor have all been playing superbly and these players will have to have big games again on Sunday if Clare are to come away from Thurles with the win.
